# Things Moov will never ask you to do

Impersonating a company is the most reported form of fraud there is, and of all the businesses scammers pose as, fake banks take the most money. A message claiming to be from Moov is easy to fake and costs nothing to send, so the useful defense is knowing what we'd never say.

## Moov or your bank will never:

- **Ask you for the one-time code** we text you. Not support, not fraud review, not for any reason.
- **Send you a request for payment.** We never ask you for money.
- **Ask you to send money back** to "release," "unlock," or "verify" a payment.

- **Ask you to move your money** to a "safe," "holding," or "verification" account. There is no such thing.
- **Ask for your full card number, PIN, or online banking password** by phone, text, or email.
- **Call you out of the blue** about suspicious activity and keep you on the line while you act.
- **Ask you to install software** or grant remote access to your device.
- **Pressure you with a deadline.** Nothing about your money requires action in the next ten minutes.
- **Ask you to keep something secret** from your family or your bank.

## What we actually do

- We text a **one-time code** when you need to verify your phone number. On most phones it arrives showing our name and logo, because we're a verified sender; where that isn't supported, the same code comes as a regular text.
- We show payment and request details **in the app or on a page at **`moov.money`, not in an email attachment.
- We answer questions **through the help center**, on a channel you started.

## How to check a message is really from us

**Don't check inside the message.** A phone number, a reply address, a link, and a support line printed in a text are all written by whoever sent it.

Instead, leave and come back by your own route: open your banking app, or start from [How to contact Moov](/help/get-help/how-to-contact-moov/). If the message was real, the same information will be waiting for you there.

## If someone does any of these

1. **Stop.** Don't share a code, don't send money, don't click.
1. **Don't reply**, even to tell them you know. A reply confirms the number is live.
