Privacy & security settings

Moov keeps your privacy and security controls in one place. Go to Account, then Privacy & Security.

Device contacts

You decide whether Moov can read the contacts on your device.

  • Full access. Moov can match the people in your address book, so you see real names instead of phone numbers.

  • Limited access. You picked specific contacts to share. Only those are visible to Moov. On iPhone, you can add or remove individual contacts at any time from Settings, and Moov will only ever see the ones you picked.

  • No access. Moov can't read your address book. You can still send and request money by choosing someone from your Moov Money contacts or by entering a phone number.

Sync contacts

This switch controls whether Moov regularly syncs your contacts. Syncing is what lets the app show you a real name instead of a bare phone number, and it's part of how we spot fraud and scams. Turning it off stops the app from sending new contact updates.

Blocked accounts

Tap through to see everyone you've blocked and to unblock anyone on the list. A blocked person can't send you money and can't request money from you, and they aren't told they've been blocked.

Payment requests

This decides who is allowed to ask you for money. There are three choices:

  • Anyone. Any Moov user with your phone number can send you a request. This is the default.

  • Contacts only. Only people in your contacts can request money from you. Everyone else is turned away before the request reaches you. This is the setting to pick if you keep getting requests from numbers you don't recognize.

  • No one. Nobody can request money from you. You can still send money, receive money, and request money from other people.

Changing this doesn't affect requests you already have, and it doesn't tell anyone what you chose.

Good to know

  • Syncing contacts is on by default and can be changed at any time.

  • These choices are saved for you specifically. If someone else uses Moov in the same app on the same device, they get their own settings rather than inheriting yours.

  • Turning off contact access or contact syncing never blocks you from sending or receiving money. It only changes how much the app can help you recognize who you're paying.

  • Blocking someone is a separate control. See How to block or unblock someone
